Breaking Down Inter’s Summer Signing Wish List And Needs For 2021-22 Season

The 2020-21 season has been one of differing contrasts for Inter Milan and their ever so loyal fan base.

With Antonio Conte at the helm of the team and the pairing of Lautaro Martinez and Romelu Lukaku tearing it up in the top scorers list Inter is sitting clear on top of the Serie A standings as well as the soccer betting odds lists around.

On the other hand, an early, unexpected and swift exit from the UEFA Champions League put the brakes on a team who is ready to come back in full helm to their former glory and power status.

While the season may be far from done, let’s dig in to what signings could become vital for Inter in order to go into the upcoming season with the same dominance and stamina that it has shown so far.

Should Inter Begin to Think About a Substitute for Handanovic?

Inter has always been known as a beacon for great goalkeepers. If you look at some of the names that have defended the Interista goal, Julio Cesar, Francesco Toldo, Gianluca Pagliuca and Walter Zenga are just a few of the legendary players that have played in the goalkeeping position for the nerazzurri.

Inter captain Samir Handanovic has rightfully earned his place in that list of legendary goalkeepers and while he continues to perform at top level the idea of starting to find his replacement has started to circle around the top Inter executive spheres.

Various names have jumped up in different lists ranging from far off international options like Tottenham’s Hugo Lloris and Granada’s Rui Silva to some Serie A staples like Argentinian Udinese keeper Juan Musso and Hellas Verona’s Marco Silvestri could fit in perfectly in Conte’s system as a secure substitute moving forward for Handanovic.

If Inter decides it’s best to think towards the future, then taking the Argentinian Musso should be a no brainer. A move like that will position Musso to take over the Argentinian starting goalkeeping spot which will most surely end up paying big benefits for Inter.

A Bit Of Defensive Tweaking Doesn’t Hurt Anybody

There is no realistic way in which you can hate Inter’s defense. That back three formation with Bastoni, De Vrij and Skriniar down the middle with Achraf Hakimi and either Ashley Young or Ivan Perisic tearing it through the flanks equals both a stronghold in the back and a strong first offensive quarter going forward.

If you add to that the likes of Andrea Ranocchia and Mateo Darmian, two home grown players helping out from the bench you can feel safe in knowing that Inter has enough top quality defenders to go around.

Still if chances are there to snatch up a top quality back they should not be ignored. Napoli’s Nikola Maksimovic, Schalke’s Shkrodan Mustafi and Betis’ Aissa Mandi could all be positive signings for an Inter side that could benefit from more defensive help.

But if given a true choice of picking, Inter should definitely make an effort to go after Atalanta’s Robin Gosens, wanted by Juventus and Manchester City and Roma’s Gianluca Mancini a personal favorite of Antonio Conte but who might see some strong difficulties to leave Roma.

Could Wijnaldum Be The Next Big Midfield Star?

While preparing for a season that could bring the news of Arturo Vidal leaving for Olympique Marseille to join Jorge Sampaoli and with the everlasting doubt of what will happen with Christian Eriksen, it might be time to put the Georgino Wijnaldum strategy in full force.

While the utopian idea of finally bringing Luka Modric to join Marcelo Brozovic down the middle of Inter’s field will always spark a little light of hope, how about finally going all in for the Liverpool Dutch star Wijnaldum?

Last summer saw clear signs of interest from both parts to join ways, and while a verbal agreement was in place between Inter and the Dutch player it was put on hold for this upcoming off season where the midfielder will be able to join whichever team he wishes at no cost.

The only true hurdle in the way would be to find a way to shake off Barcelona’s interest for Wijnaldum, but with Barcelona dealing with an ever growing football crisis it would be the best move around to strike before and get that much desired upgrade down the midfield with the Dutch star.

Keeping Lautaro and Lukaku Together Is A Must!

Every Inter fans knows that ever since Lautaro Martinez and Romelu Lukaku joined forces at the top of Inter’s offense the world has been a better place.

Between Lukaku’s brute strength and Martinez’ delicious ball handling the question is not will Inter score today? It’s how many goals will Inter score? Inter needs to make it a top priority to keep both scorers in the team for next season and moving forward as much as possible.

Sure, there have been rumors of Barcelona and Real Madrid wanting Lautaro as their next big star but Inter needs to stay firm here, resign Lautaro and keep Lukaku by his side. With an upcoming season that will most surely bring them back to the Champions League and with redemption in sight they both need to be there, no other way around it.
