The history of FC Inter Milan is an amazing journey that comes with some good and bad times. It was established in the year 1908, after separating from AC Milan.

What led to the separation was an unresolved issue about AC Milan, concentrating only on Italian players. The new club was named Inter Milan by its founders, showing it is accessible to international players.

History

The Italian football club, Inter Milan, was founded on March 9, 1908. It was not long after the club’s establishment that it came to the limelight, as it takes only two years after its establishment that the first Scudetto was won.

Inter Milan secured its role in Italian football by having six more victories in the subsequent fifty years. It won its first Coppa Italia trophy in the year 1938 through the brilliant performance of Giuseppe Meazza, who is still Inter Milan’s outstanding goalscorer of all time, scoring 384 goals.

Everything changed after the National Fascist Party came to in power, concluded that the club had to conform to political orders in 1922. This necessitated a merge between Inter Milan and Unione Sportiva Milanese and the new name Società Sportiva Ambrosiana. The club changed back to its old name as soon as the days of fascism in Italy were over.

The Impact Of Helenio Herrera

Inter Milan has to give kudos to coach Helenio Herrera for their enormous achievements. When he arrived at the club in 1960, he began making changes to the catenaccio system to make it more competitive for counterattacks.

The libero was a crucial aspect of the catenaccio system, a role assigned to Armando Picchi. Also, strict guidelines were put in place in regards to nutrition and discipline by coach Herrera. During his tenure at the club, from 1960 to 1968, Inter Milan won three Scudetto’s and two European Cups.

He had an outstanding team including attacker Sandro Mazzola, right-winger Jair da Costa and Luis Suárez, who later became the most valuable player in the world when he moved to Inter Milan in 1961.

Worse Times

Inter Milan struggled to win two Scudetto’s and two Italian Cups in the next twenty years. Then in the 90s, Inter Milan unexpectedly found itself on the margins, playing second fiddle to Juventus and AC Milan.

Inter Milan was very close to being relegated in 1994 but struggled to survive and continue to be the only Italian club that has never dropped from the top division.

A New Era

With the coming of Roberto Mancini as head coach in 2004, everything changed. He led them to three consecutive Scudettos victories with a great record in the 2006–2007 season with 30 games won out of 38, having 97 points in all before leaving in 2008.

In 2010, Inter Milan became the first Italian team to win at the Serie A, Italian Cup and the Champions League.
